physical fitness

There are two related concepts under physical fitness: general fitness (a state of health and well-being) and specific fitness (an action-oriented definition based on ability to perform specific aspects of sports or occupations). Physical fitness is usually achieved through exercise, proper diet and adequate rest. It is an important part of life.

Over the years [when?], Fitness was commonly defined as the ability to carry out daytime activities without much fatigue. However, due to automation, rest time increased, this definition became inadequate with the change in lifestyle after the industrial revolution. [Citation needed] These days, physical fitness can be used to perform work and leisure activities in an efficient and effective, healthy manner. Being considered to be a criterion for physical resistance to low-kinetic diseases, and physical ability to cope with emergent situations.

Accordingly, the general objective of a physical fitness program should focus on the following essential components: [2] [self-published source?]

Endurance of the heart
Flexibility training
strength training
Muscle power
Body composition
General skills training
But, along with these essential components, there is a comprehensive fitness program tailored to the individual, which will likely focus on one or more skills, [3] and age [4] or health needs such as bone health . [5] Many sources [citation needed] also mention mental and emotional health as an important part of overall fitness. In textbooks it is often presented as a triangle made up of three points, representing physical, emotional, and mental fitness. Physical fitness can also prevent or treat long-term health conditions caused by poor lifestyle or aging. [6] Working can also help people get better sleep. Physical activity is important to stay healthy. [7]

Specific fitness
Specific or work-oriented fitness is the ability of a person to function appropriately in a specific activity: for example sports or military service. Special training prepares athletes to perform well in their sports.

Examples are:

400 Meter Sprint: An athlete in a sprint must be trained to work anaerobically (without air) during the entire race.
Marathon: In this case the athlete should be trained to work aerobically (in the presence of air) and their endurance should be maximized.
Many fire extinguishers and police officers go for regular fitness tests to ascertain whether they are physically capable of doing the work as required by the task. [8]
Members of the United States Army and Military National Guard should be able to pass the Military Physical Fitness Test (APFT). [9]
